Geographical map is a two-dimensional representation of a portion of the Earth's surface. In the last several thousand years maps have been an integral part of human's society. The art of map making (cartography) started a several thousand years ago. Imago Mundi (6th century BC Babylonia) is the oldest known map of the world.

There are many different kinds of maps. A political map for example shows territorial borders between the countries of the world. A physical map presentns geographical features like mountains, lakes, rivers, soil type, etc. Another type of map is the geological map which displays subsurface geological features.
